Upload at 1080×1920, but the grid crops to 4:5
A Reel plays full-screen at 1080×1920 (9:16). On your profile grid, Instagram shows a 1080×1350 (4:5) crop taken from the centre-top of the cover. So a cover title placed low looks fine while the Reel plays but is cut off on the grid. Put the title in the centre and it works in both places.
Keep text out of the bottom for playback
During playback the caption, audio name and the like/comment/share column overlap the bottom ~420 px and right edge. Keep essential text and faces in the upper-centre so the UI doesn't hide them.
Choosing a cover
You can upload a custom cover image (1080×1920) or pick a frame. Either way, design the cover so the important part fits the 1080×1350 grid crop — that is the thumbnail people browse.
